Pre-School Program
In our preschool classroom, teachers and children are active partners in the learning process. This balanced approach to interaction between adults and children - also call "intentional teaching" - is critical to our effectiveness.
Space and material are carefully arranged to promote active learning. Teachers give preschoolers a sense of control over the day by planning a consistent daily routine that enables the children to anticipate what happens next.
The curriculum is built around activities in these main content areas:
- Physical development
- Approaches to learning
- Social and emotional development Language, communication and emergent literacy
- Cognitive development and general knowledge
Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK)
OELA participates in the Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program (VPK). The FREE, state-funded program provides 540 hours (3 hours per day for the 180 days following Orange County Public Schools' Calendar) to all children who are four years old on or before September 1st.
- This educational program aims to prepare every four-year-old in Florida for kindergarten and establish the foundation for their educational success.
- The VPK program offers each child an opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life by providing quality programs that include developmentally appropriate curricula.
- The program has a strong focus on early literacy skills, accountability, manageable class sizes, and increased teacher credentials.
